On March 18, 2024, a significant meeting took place at the headquarters of the China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., where Jia Bingjun, the Director of the International Business Department of the China Datang Corporation Ltd., Chairman, and CEO of China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., engaged in discussions with Iven Zyuulu, the Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the People's Republic of China. The talks mainly delved into pragmatic cooperation within the energy sector in bilateral relations.
During the meeting, representatives from the Zambian Embassy in China, including Minister Counsellor Alfred Likokoto Sililo, Economic Counsellor Lordwell Kalubankwa, and Second Secretary Lydia Daka, actively participated. Additionally, Li Deyong, Vice president of China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, Jia Bingjun extended gratitude to the Zambian government and the embassy in China for their consistent support and assistance to China Datang Corporation Ltd. He proceeded to outline the general situation of the corporation and the current status of its overseas project developments. Additionally, there was a detailed exchange regarding the interaction between the China Datang Corporation Ltd. and the Zambian Ministry of Science and Technology, following the visit of the Zambian Minister of Science and Technology to the corporation. He emphasized the evolving relationship between China and Zambia, now comprehensive strategic partners. China Datang Corporation Ltd. takes Zambia as a strategic entry point for further cooperation, particularly in coordinating plans for developing the African energy market. China Datang Corporation Ltd. is ready to harness its technological, financial, and human resources advantages to actively engage in investment cooperation within Zambia's energy and power sectors. This endeavor is aimed at bolstering Zambia's energy stability and fostering green, sustainable development in the energy sector. Additionally, it seeks to elevate the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Zambia.
Ambassador Zyuulu extended his gratitude for the gracious hospitality provided by China Datang Corporation Ltd. and China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. He proceeded to offer insights into current macroeconomic landscape, debt restructuring efforts, and the state of the electricity market of Zambia. He noted that Zambia boasts abundant natural resources and enjoys relative stability in its economic and social spheres. He also highlighted the relatively comprehensive legal frameworks governing investments. He warmly welcomed investment from China Datang Corporation Ltd. in Zambia's electricity projects. The Zambian Embassy in China pledged its full support to facilitate communication and cooperation between China Datang Corporation and relevant Zambian government departments and institutions to achieve more pragmatic cooperation outcomes. Additionally, Ambassador Zyuulu provided details about the planned activities for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia.
Representatives from the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Ltd., the Investment Development Department of China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., as well as personnel from the African Representative Office, attended the meeting.
